Essex Branch Christmas meal 2018

Postby Chris950s » Mon Sep 24, 2018 11:50 am

There was talk about a Christmas meal at Magaretting Tye, we will need to book a venue soon to avoid disappointment. It was suggested that we use the 16th December meeting at the Donkey and Buskins, Layer-de-la-Haye and have a meal on that lunchtime.

What do you all think?

Sounds plausible, and perhaps cunning to use the monthly meeting date to include this. Conversely I would have some problem committing to a weekend date around that time yet due to the more usual undercurrents of scheduling conflicts that the Yuletide season brings to bear.

Well I leave it in the branch member's hands, if you want a Christmas meal then speak up, sooner rather than later

Well, there are two of you so thats two more than my 'local' area :?

Mind you Christmas is always a bit of a pain to arrange meetings what with those going away on holiday or family gatherings etc - it may be reasonable to make a christmas/new year get together during Jan; weather permitting.

We never had a problem before, maybe it is too early, but then if you don't book you don't get. Seeing as there is little enthusiasm, maybe the December meeting at the Donkey and Buskins should be left as just that, a normal monthly meeting.

There is always the October 21st meeting to discuss any arrangements for a xmas 'party' which gives to some some two months befoe the date but, as you say, pubs etc get booked up quickly so November is likely to be too late!

Looks like a plan to me! Could discuss it further at next venue?

Max there has been very little response, to add to that on Sunday you have suggested another venue, confusion reigns. I think we are running out of time to book anywhere to be sure to get what we want, and from the response, very few want anything.

I had hoped to have passed on the organiser's hat over a year ago and I am not enthused in trying to get menu choices and cash deposits from members let alone chase up my posts and emails I have sent out to all of the Essex branch on this topic. It would appear that no one wants to pick up the reins and also only a couple of people have answered that they even want to sit down and eat Christmas fare with other branch members.

It is a shame, but I am not prepared to go any further with this, unless there is a sea change in the current situation and a few more want to join together for a festive meal, Christmas will be cancelled, bah humbug! You can lead a horse to the forum but you can't make him post.
